So I’m going through the betta tag to fill up my queue and I come across this picture.
I’m sorry, but whoever took and likes this picture is a piece of animal abusing trash. Fuck this whole situation being used as artistic and the awful photographer who thought animals ripping each other limb for limb for “art” was cool.
EDIT: For those who don’t understand why this is bad, I thought I should elaborate.
Betta fish are extremely aggressive towards their own species. The “stripes” you see on the fish are a sign of stress as they attack and kill each other.
They’re not “just fish”. These are pets that the artist bought and acquired, then decided to practice animal cruelty and abuse by having them kill each other. This is the same as forcing two dogs to fight. No, there is no difference.
Forcing any animals to fight for your own amusement or your sick, twisted version of artistic right is disgusting. The artist and anyone who likes this photo of two animals forced to suffer at the hands of the pet owner who should be providing them warmth, shelter, food, and safety is a horrible person who should feel bad about themselves and their choices.
Females, not fighting. Just bought from the shop… Get a grip.
I can, with much confidence, say you’re wrong. On a lot of things. Assuming the fish are females (which due to their body shape and fin type, I am 90% sure they are males and if you still think they’re female, I think you got ripped off), female betta fish will fight when in groups of two. They will murder each other as readily as males.
So the defense that they are females is not much at all.
Secondly, they have stress stripes. Which indicates, well, stress. They are scared. The one on the right has clear signs of fighting, with bite marks and fin rippage that the one on the left does not sport, suggesting the one on the left has been tearing into her.
Secondly, you should have been more concerned with getting the fish acclimated than stopping to take an artistic photo. It’s clear that they’re both extremely stressed out and just want some peace and quiet.
In any case, male or female, this situation is cruel and abusive. Furthermore, you titled this photo “Fish Fights.”, you piece of trash. Whether or not they were actually fighting, you were promoting betta fish fighting as something artistic and classy, which is sick. To put it in perspective, that’s like taking a picture of an injured dog with an angry one that looks ready to pounce and titling it “Look at how cute my dog fighting ring is! ^___^!!”
I agree with you guys but try to leave the insults out of and just keep the educational bits. It helps much more. :)
